READ THIS BEFORE USING ANY ONLINE PASSPORT APPLICATION SERVICE!
New passports, as well as renewals, require filling out an application. These applications can be obtained, for free, from the U.S. Department of State's website at travel.state.gov (you can also use the links on our site) or from any passport acceptance agency like us!
There are companies that advertise online that they can make the passport process easy and secure for a fee. These fees are typically in line with the normal passport fees (we have see people pay between $130 and $250 for these services), but they go straight to the company and have nothing to do with the actual passport processing fees. Citizens are then required to pay the additional passport fees at the acceptance agencies. Are these scams? Unfortunately, according to the U.S. State Department, they are not. These companies have disclaimers that you are paying them to use their "sophisticated software" to fill in a free form, but they are often in small text or hidden away. We have had several citizens bring these forms in and every one has had incomplete information. Companies that include a passport picture with their package often have deficiencies that require a new picture.
